football team Reichelt commits

“I chose Dakota Wesleyan because it had that family sense, that family feeling like the Kernels did for me,” Reichelt said. “I chose Dakota Wesleyan because I felt the same way.”

Reichelt is the fourth member of the Kernels Class 11AA state championship team that will play for the Tigers. Spencer Neugebauer, Alex Klingaman and Bryce Geraets have also announced their intentions to play for DWU.

The opportunity to continue playing with his Kernel teammates was a factor for Reichelt, as well.

“That really made me want to go there more because they are great teammates and I would love to play more football with those guys,” Reichelt said.

Reichelt was an all-state linebacker this past season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder posted 102 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. On offense, he led the state champions with 11 catches for 251 yards and five touchdowns.

He is projected to play middle linebacker for the Tigers.

“I am really looking forward to playing linebacker for them,” he said. “They just had a great linebacker (Adam Bormann) graduate and I am hoping to fill his shoes. It’s some big shoes to fill, but I am hoping that I can fill them.”

Reichelt picked DWU over scholarship offers from NAIA schools Dakota State and Doane University and NCAA Division II Northern State. He was also considering walk-on offers from FCS schools South Dakota State and North Dakota State, but “from the start I was kind of leaning toward Dakota Wesleyan.”

He will major in criminal justice at DWU.
